Arastradero

Late afternoon light amongst the live oaks.

The great asphalt ribbon of I-280 cuts from San Francisco to San Jose through the foothills of the rolling Coast Range. In summer afternoons great, white fingers of fog creep from over the coast to touch the golden hills. Winter rains turn the California savannah into a verdant grassland where cows and California live oaks dot the landscape. I recently walked a few miles through the beautiful Arastradero open space preserve with camera in hand to collect an evening sunset striking the paths and grasses of a landscape shedding its winter greens for summer straws.

Well, I can finally see your website work! It isn’t blocked anymore :) And now that I have subscribed, I won’t miss a post! These are fantastic. I really like how you chose to process them. Nice work J!

I’m glad to hear it isn’t blocked – took me a dog’s age to clear out some hacking BS. Thanks man!

Gorgeous shots! They make me want to be there. I especially like the large photo of the grass with the tiny blue flowers. Is that foxtail grass? I love your writing, too.

Suzy – many thanks! I’m glad you like them (and the writing)! That is foxtail grass, it’s everywhere along the lower (wetter) parts of the hills. Higher up and the taller grasses prevail. They are already turning brown. I’ll have to return when the hills are covered in straw and share more.
